B-boy Stance

Sharlene Marie Mateo

As much as being a female, second generation Filipino-American is in my blood, hip hop culture also runs through my veins. The elements of hip hop have captivated me from the get go. Whether it’s someone armed with a microphone, some turntables, a spray can, or just their bodies, it’s really an artistic culture in and of itself. This piece is one of my many odes to this love for hip hop, focusing on the talents of the B-boy, or break-dancer, to capture movement in a style unique to the culture itself.
