The Dorothy Carpenter Medical Archives
is responsible for collecting and developing materials that document the history
of Wake Forest University School of Medicine and
North Carolina
Baptist
Hospitals
, Incorporated. To document that history, the Archives collects materials in
four main areas:
- Manuscript
or paper materials - include departmental and/or personal documents, medical
center publications, subject files and medical association collections.
- Personal
manuscripts that relate to the donor’s relationship with the school
and/or hospital.
- Subject
files are a ready reference collection created and organized by the
archivists. They include media clippings, brochures, correspondence and
general informational papers.
- Oral
History materials - include
cassettes, transcripts, photographs, compact discs, video recordings and
miscellaneous materials given by the interviewee
- Audiovisual
materials - include original medical illustration, photographs, 16mm and 8mm
films, slides, reel-to-reels and videotapes.
- Special
collections - include museum
objects, textiles, history of medicine books, portraits and medical center
awards/plaques. Another special collection is the faculty authored monograph
collection housed in the Board Room of the Library.
The Archives’ staff reserves the right to refuse donations that do not fit
into the collection development policy or would be more appropriate at another
institution.
